We believe in you, we believe in your potential and we are going to do everything we can to help you develop it. These are perhaps the best words of encouragement for kids. For a parent, teacher, mentor, facilitator, guide and friend, believing in your child means sharing inadequacies, imperfections and feelings with each other while still loving each other.
We are the architects of our child’s future and we dare not go wrong. Be it a handicapped child, mentally challenged, autistic, misbehaved, slow learner, genius, sickly and weak, psychologically challenged or just an average kid, never forget they are God’s most precious gift to us. Our endeavours to believe, love and nurture them will eventually bear fruit.
When we believe in our child’s ability, the chances of them making mistakes becomes less. It is this positive attitude that can make a lot of difference in their performance.
Believing in them helps them to face their personal struggles and get over little hurdles successfully. It gives them the courage to face everyday challenges, helps them deal with peer pressure, school pressure, parent pressure and remain cheerful throughout the day.
Children thrive on encouragement. It is just as important to support a child who doesn’t perform well as it is to congratulate him / her for success. Real learning is not based on reward, but on the value your child places on the process itself. It is important to make something positive out of failure. The history of our incredible world is witness to the making of great individuals, fostered by the immense belief that their gurus and parents had in them. Talking of great gurus, the world still remembers Chanakya who was a teacher to the first Mauryan Emperor Chandragupta – the first emperor in the archaeologically recorded history to rule the complete Indian Subcontinent. Chanakya is considered to be the architect of Chandragupta’s rise to power at a young age. It was Chanakya’s unshakable belief in Chandragupta’s potential and talent that created history and indeed a victorious one.
The contribution of parents and teachers for a child’s overall development are most important. Children develop self-confidence, feel valuable and learn important skills when we have faith and belief in their abilities.
It is time we stand as strong pillars for our children. This reminds me of what Henry James had to say : “To believe in a child is to believe in the future. Through their aspirations they will save the world. With their combined knowledge, the turbulent seas of hate and injustice will be calmed. They will champion the causes of life’s underdogs, forging a society without class discrimination. They will supply humanity with music and beauty as it has never known. They will endure. Towards these ends I pledge my life’s work. I will supply the children with tools and knowledge to overcome the obstacles. I will pass on the wisdom of my years and temper it with patience. I shall impact in each child the desire to fulfill his or her dream. I shall teach.”
Keep believing your child ! When you believe in your child, she can achieve and soar higher. Believe it with your soul, you possess a powerful asset, so let her fly ! keep believing ….. ! believing ….. ! believing ….. !
