In those years, the only group that constantly fought against the occupiers was the SWAT unit in Nineveh province, made up of local men who had either been injured or whose family member had been killed by IS. Carulahan’s Mosul is a contagious tribute to these fighters for whom the incentives were very personal. Kawa (Adam Bessa), a 21-year-old police officer, barely survives a shootout. When the smoke clears, he meets the men who saved his life, Nineveh SWAT, led by Jasem (Suhail Dabbach). ISIS recently killed Kawa’s own uncle. He joins the group, though they’re reduced to just a dozen men with three humves and an excess of cigarettes. Before the first day of the Nineveh SWAT program ends, Kawa sees the child rescued and several colleagues killed, avenges the man who betrayed her, and participates in the ambush of the ISIS fortress. Carnahan drops us off in the middle of the city war, but also allows ….
